5.1. Methodological overview

The final objective of this subject is that students acquire the knowledge and appropriate skills in the application of Geographical Information Systems, Global Navigation Satellite Systems, image interpretation and Remote Sensing to industrial and military oriented applications.

5.2. Learning tasks

Lectures, tutorials on problem solving and case study analysis.

5.3. Syllabus

  •  Geographical Information Systems (GIS): introduction to GIS, geographical information characteristics (data modeling in GIS), sources of information in GIS, spatial analysis functions, visualization and cartographic design, industrial and military oriented applications.
  •  Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) as a GIS source of data: what is a GNSS?; reference systems; GNSS operation; types of receiver; error sources and technology to reduce them; key parameters.
  •  Remote Sensing: Introduction to Remote Sensing, Remote Sensing data characteristics, Remote Sensing systems and programs, satellite images stretch and visualization, filtering and digital treatment.
